Inexplicable

I have several friends who lost their jobs to the current crisis. Some of them had just started with their respective companies. Relocated from India to work thousands of miles away in London. And within months lost their precious jobs. What followed was a period of joblessness and idleness that would in the least be unsettling - what with the young, fresh out of college blood waiting for its chance to conquer the world. I figure it would not be the best of times.

However, and here is the inexplicable part, when they finally moved back to India and found new jobs and were closer home, they realized they were happier in London. Why? How?

Ex

Last week my ex got engaged (well almost). We had been together for 1 yr and continued to be good friends for 2 years after in an on-now-off-now relationship. It was a conscious decision for we knew it was not working for us.

When she first told me about the guy she will marry soon, I was very supportive and literally encouraged her to embrace the unfolding situation. Now that it all seems final and stuff, logic dictates I should feel remorse. But the funny bit is, I don't, at least not yet. Still waiting, for I know it will come, eventually!

Homeless

Am officially homeless now. Living out of packed suitcases at a friend's place, for the next 3 weeks. Had my official check-out of the apartment today. Last year was an exercise in all that could possibly go wrong and 1000 ways to lose your deposit money. Hopefully this year will be different. Stinginess notwithstanding, I got my apartment cleaned for end of tenancy.

Now is time to settle down for the week ahead. It promises to be interesting. Lots of politics and excitement. d(boss)/d(t) has gone to zero from infinity but uncertainty remains. Is a live case study, or perfect material for a book!!

Being Indian

Like blogging, I have lost the habit of reading. Or if I read, I do it very slowly. Literally painfully. Anyways, am reading Being Indian by Pavan K. Varma. Have only just started. Was recommended by a friend and colleague, fellow desi. Didn't like the premise the book was written on. Am still skeptical it will play too much on western clichés of India. However have liked immensely what I have read so far. I particularly liked the language and presentation style - very academic!

Is a good change from financial journalism I have grown used to of reading lately. Hope it keeps the interest alive till the very end for most of my latest reads have fizzled out midway. Or maybe I am developing attention deficit disorder!

Preface

This is not a blog to blog about why I want to blog (again), who to blog for, what about and how frequently.

This is a blog to serve as a retreat.
